Honest Weather - Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 October 2026. Describes Honest Weather for iPhone and iPad.
Honest Weather is a weather app for iPhone and iPad. It is published by LetsGetStashd™ Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company no. 17304979), registered office 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA, United Kingdom. LetsGetStashd™ Ltd is the data controller for the information described here. You can contact us about privacy at support@letsgetstashd.com.
The short version:
- There is no account and nothing to sign in to.
- There is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. The app never asks to follow you across other apps or websites.
- We run no server that receives data from the app.
- To show a forecast, the app asks weather services about the places you follow. Those services receive the coordinates of those places and your network (IP) address, as any website you visit would.
- The record of how each forecast source has performed near you is built and stored on your device. It is not uploaded.
What the app uses, and why
Your location
If you allow it, the app uses your location while the app is open, to find the forecast and rain radar where you are. It never asks for location in the background. If you decline, you can add places by name instead and the app works the same way. You can change the permission at any time in iOS Settings.
The places you follow
Their names and coordinates are stored on your device so the app can show them and fetch their forecasts.
Forecast and observation history
Each time the app fetches a forecast it keeps a copy on your device, and later compares it with weather station readings for the same place and time. That is how the app works out which sources have been right near you. It is stored in the app's private storage on your device and is deleted when you delete the app.
Settings
Your choices (units, look, alerts) are stored on your device.
Notifications
If you switch on rain alerts, the app asks iOS for permission and schedules notifications on your device itself. We do not use push notification servers and hold no notification address for you.
Widgets and Apple Watch
To show the forecast on the Home Screen, the Lock Screen and Apple Watch, the app saves a small summary of your followed places' forecasts in storage shared between the app and its widgets on your device, and sends it to your paired watch over Apple's WatchConnectivity.
Apple Intelligence
On devices that support it, the app can use Apple's on-device language model to word the conclusion in friendlier language. It runs on your device. The numbers, ranges and confidence come from the app's own calculation, and the model is only asked to phrase them.
What leaves your device
When you open the app, refresh, or use the radar, the app sends requests over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to these services. Each receives the request itself, including your network address, and the coordinates or map area shown below.
- Open-Meteo receives the coordinates of a followed place, rounded to about 110 metres, for forecast models.
- MET Norway receives the coordinates of a followed place, truncated to about 11 metres, for its forecast.
- NOAA Aviation Weather Center receives a small box around a followed place, for airport weather observations used to check forecasts.
- NOAA National Weather Service receives the coordinates of a followed place in the United States, for station observations used to check forecasts.
- Environment Agency (England) receives the coordinates of a followed place in England, for rainfall observations used to check forecasts.
- Radar services (NOAA MRMS, Deutscher Wetterdienst, Environment and Climate Change Canada) receive the map area on screen, as image tile requests, for rain radar.
- Apple (MapKit) receives place names you type, and coordinates for naming a place, for place search and the map. Apple's privacy policy governs what it does with them.
We do not control what these services log. Their own privacy and data policies apply to what they receive; the app's Settings, Data sources page links to each of them. We send them no name, account, device identifier or advertising identifier, because the app has none to send.
What we do not do
We do not sell or share personal data, build advertising profiles, use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, or track you across other companies' apps and websites. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics; those come from Apple, not from code in the app.
Keeping and deleting data
Everything the app stores is on your device. Deleting the app deletes it. You can remove a place at any time in the app. Because we hold none of your data on a server, there is nothing for us to delete, export or correct on your behalf, but if you think we hold something about you, write to us and we will check and tell you.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Your rights
If you are in the UK, the EEA or another place with data protection law, you have rights over personal data held about you, including access, correction, deletion and the right to complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office). Contact us at support@letsgetstashd.com.
Changes to this policy
If the app starts to do something that changes the answers above, for example by adding an account, a subscription or any analytics, we will update this page and the app's Settings, Privacy screen before the change ships, and change the date at the top.
